"...for two long lifetimes of work dedicated to realizing in practice the Gandhian vision of social justice and sustainable human development, for which they have been referred to as 'India's soul'."

Krishnammal Jagannathan was born in the year 1926 in Tamil Nadu, India and dedicated her life to social service along with her husband Jagannathan. She and her husband have protested against social injustice and she is well known as a Gandhian activist. Since she was born to a landless Dalit family she knows the difficulty better than others. Her work includes upliftment of Dalits, the landless, and the poor; she has sometimes fought against governments as well as big industries.

They helped many rural poor people to get land and also started organization Land for the Tillers' Freedom (LAFTI). Through which the landlord and landless will be brought to the negotiation table and help them to buy lands at low cost and help them work cooperatively. In this way they can repay their loans in easy terms.

She had transferred 13000 acres to about 13000 families through her organization LAFTI. She has also helped the people by conducting workshops during the non agricultural season to support themselves through entrepreneurial works like plumbing, tailoring and etcetera. . LAFTI would gain such popularity that later even the Government of India would implement LAFTI's approach to increase the peaceful transfer of land.Krishnammal Jagannathan, either independently or together with her husband, has established a total of seven non-governmental institutions for the poor.

She has received Padma Shri for her role in helping the poor, one of the prestigious awards given by the Indian government. In 1999 Krishnammal was awarded a Summit Foundation Award (Switzerland), and in 2008 she was awarded 'Opus Prize' by the University of Seattle and also Right Livelihood Award along with four others which included her husband. She is lovingly called as Amma (Mother in Tamil) by her followers. She plans to use the award money for her projects rather than for herself.

The HIV virus has been spreading around the world for almost two decades in all most all theountries. Every year the count of HIV People is rising and people die in more numbers because of this HIV, even though with many prevention methods and awareness programs conducted all over the globe. According to UNAIDS survey, there are about 33 million people living with HIV, including 2.5 million children.

World’s AIDS day started 1st December, 1988, reminding everyone that the disease is not eradicated and still things are pending to be done. This day is about raising funds, conducting awareness program to fight the disease.

The best way to reduce the AIDS is by teaching the young peoples with moral aspects. There are many people out there providing AIDS education in moral ways and how to prevent ourselves getting infected. But still many organizations fighting against AIDS finds difficulty in providing health education to the teenagers and young peoples.

“AIDS education shouldn’t ever include a moral judgement – it is one thing to teach young people that promiscuous sex and intravenous drug use are unsafe, another thing to teach them that these things are morally wrong”.

Support World AIDS Day

People with AIDS please don’t be depressed because of the disease and take your vaccines as prescribed for you by the doctor. Support the organizations with their awareness program and be a part of the good cause to happen in future.

I request all the general public to help the HIV affected with love and affection. Please don’t avoid them out of the social activities and don’t make them depressed. Join the awareness program, conduct events, and share your ideas, so that it will help to fight the disease at higher rate. Let us join our hands together to fight against it.
